What is the Advisory Council?

The Advisory council is a group of former EEA board members who are invited to serve to assist the EEA Board of Directors.

EEA has experienced substantial growth over the last decade due to the commitment of its Board of Directors and early strategic planning.  As the organization has grown, so have the Board of Directors' operational responsibilities.  The Advisory Council fills a critical mission for EEA.  They select the Outstanding Service and Eugene Odum Lifetime EEA Awards, update and maintain the organization's history, fund raise for the organization, and support the Lifetime Membership.  The Advisory Council assists the nominating committee and provides support to build leadership among board members.

How does the Advisory Council work with the Board of Directors?
The Advisory Council is not a policy-making body and is subject to the bylaws of the Environmental Education Alliance of Georgia.  The Board of Directors maintains full responsibility fo rthe projects and programs of EEA.  The Advisory Council engages in activities as requested and/or approved by the Executive Committee.

Past Examples include active participation in the strategic planning process, the development of a system for recognizing outstanding achievement in Environmental Education in Georgia, and the development of a strand at EEA's annual conference.

Future actions include fundraising to support the work of EEA's committees.  Advisory Council members are encouraged to attend the quarterly meetings of the Board of Directors, but may not vote.  A representative from the Advisory Council will present reports from its planning sessions at meetings of the EEA Board of Directors.

How long is the term of service?
Two years minimum with no term limits.

How often does the Advisory Council meet?
Two to three times per year.  Committees may meet more often.
