Current Issues

The current issues committee is a new EEA committee that is actively advancing current and emerging environmental education issues through stakeholder engagement and partnerships, advocacy, and outreach.

It is both an exciting and challenging time in the field of environmental education.  For example, critical bills are being introduced that will enhance our collective work, GA’s PLU requirements recently changed, and EE budgets and staff are being cut.  The committee exists to monitor these and a holistic suite of activities in order to disseminate information towards members taking appropriate action.

The committee is monitoring Georgia’s environmental literacy plan, No Child Left Inside legislation, and will serve as a resource for articles, action alerts, and emerging information relevant to the environmental educator.

Some of our key strategies include:

  • Engage and partner with public health professionals, organizations, and agencies.
    • Increase awareness about the health benefits of learning and play in nature.
  • Create member dialog regarding current issues, concerns, and barriers to creating a statewide culture of environmental literacy and stewardship.
