State Environmental Education Awards
The nomination period for the 2019 EEA Awards is now open. Submissions are due by February 5, 2019.
Winners will be announced at the EEA Annual Conference in March.  

Eligibility: Individuals, nongovernmental and governmental organizations, institutions and agencies, and for-profit and not-for-profit entities are eligible for consideration. 

You will be asked to provide the following information on the nomination.  Please do not exceed the word limit where provided.

  • Name of person or organization nominated (as you would like to see it on the award)
  • Name of the award you are nominating the individual or organization for
  • Title and address of person or organization nominated
  • Brief summary of accomplishments of person or organization nominated (50-word limit)
  • Explanation of accomplishments of person or organization nominated (500-word limit) including:
    • When were accomplishments made?
    • Why, specifically, do you believe the accomplishments represent distinguished service to the cause of EE or to EE research?
  • Nominator information
    • Your name, mailing address, phone number, fax number, and e-mail address
    • Nominators will be asked to provide two .jpg photographs and three bulleted information sound bites for the awards ceremony at the annual conference if the nominee wins


Please note:  (1) The nominator must be a member of EEA or must have a co-nominator who is a member.  (2) Members of an organization can submit more than one nomination for a particular individual or organization.

Dr. Eugene Odum Lifetime Achievement Award

The person receiving the award must have made a significant contribution to EE and should be known for one or more of the following:

  • An active EEA member with at least five years of membership
  • Has made leadership contributions to the field of EE in addition to contributions emanating directly from either his/her salaried duties or in a volunteer capacity
  • Must have received clear recognition of her/his overall contributions among EE colleagues and within EEA
  • Must have served at least 15 years in the field of EE

 


Outstanding Service to Environmental Education by an Individual

The person receiving the award must have made a significant contribution to EE and should be known for one or more of the following:

  • Does not have to be an active EEA member
  • Visible contributions in EE (e.g. research, innovations, curricula, legislation, publications, teaching, etc.)
  • Dedicated service in the field of EE in Georgia
  • Outstanding environmental action, contribution, or stance by a person whose primary function is not environmental (e.g. a politician supportive of EE programs or legislation, etc.)
  • Excellence in reporting environmental issues for the purpose of educating the public, in print or electronic media (e.g. a writer; newspaper, radio, or television program that regularly gives space or time to present environmental information in such a way as to educate over a period of time; or any network, foundation, or entity that makes such reporting possible)

 

Outstanding Service to Environmental Education by an Organization

The organization receiving the award must have made a significant contribution to EE and should be known for one or more of the following:

  • Does not have to be an active EEA organizational member
  • Visible contributions in EE (e.g. research, innovations, curricula, legislation, publications, teaching etc.)
  • Dedicated service in the field of EE in Georgia
  • Outstanding environmental action, contribution, or stance by an organization whose primary function is not environmental (e.g. a political group that is supportive of EE programs or legislation, etc.)
  • Excellence in reporting environmental issues for the purpose of educating the public, in print or electronic media (e.g. a writer; newspaper, radio, or television program that regularly gives space or time to present environmental information in such a way as to educate over a period of time; or any network, foundation, or entity that makes such reporting possible)

 


PK-16 Formal Educator of the Year Award

The person receiving the award must have made a significant contribution to EE in one or more of the following ways:

  • Does not have to be an active EEA member
  • Has received clear recognition of her/his overall contributions among EE colleagues within Georgia
  • Has made visible contributions to the field of EE (e.g. research, legislation, publications, teaching, etc.)
  • Demonstrated innovation in incorporating EE into lesson plans
  • Demonstrated leadership in mentoring colleagues and students to use the environment as a context for learning
