The 2025 Outdoor Learning Symposium will take place on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at the Fernbank Science Center, 156 Heaton Park Drive, Atlanta, GA. (Note: NOT the natural history museum that is similarly named).
Join us for an exciting day of professional learning intended for K-12 teachers, college professors, and community (non-formal) educators and environmental stewardship project organizers. There will be sessions on how to create and manage outdoor learning spaces, teach effectively outdoors, and engage students or community groups in solving local problems. For example: find out how to plant trees that survive with minimal maintenance, create a schoolyard forest or arboretum, foster student-directed investigations on campus, facilitate community science projects; observe seasonal changes in trees or other schoolyard phenomena; engage students in "graduated challenges", and teach the Georgia standards outdoors. Location and Parking
- OLS will be held at Fernbank Science Center: 156 Heaton Park Drive in Atlanta, GA 30307 (NOT Fernbank Museum). Map link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Eqmm5LQdVAEywgm69
- Parking is available on-site and across the street at Fernbank Elementary. Please park in designated spaces, and not on any roadway or in residential areas. Designated parking spaces (in yellow on map) are located along Heaton Park Drive, in front of the Science Center, and at the Fernbank Elementary School. Parking is free, however if vehicles are not in designated parking spaces, illegally parked, blocking driveways, mailboxes, or fire hydrants, they may be ticketed and/or towed.
