Outdoor Learning Symposium

The Council of Outdoor Learning had a successful 17th annual Outdoor Learning Symposium...

GROW OUTDOORS: outdoor learning from preschool to high school

Thank you to all the educators from across Georgia who joined us for a day of hands-on sessions that focused on engaging students in outdoor settings.  Check back here often for the 2014 event details to learn how to enhance your outdoor classroom or make use of any outdoor space that you have.  Outdoor learning for all ages is what we are all about!

In 2013 we went to the coast...

October 4th - 5th, 2013 ~ Oatland Island Wildlife Center ~ Savannah

ome more information...

This year's event was held Friday, October 4th at Oatland Island Wildlife Center. The symposium typically costs $85/members and $110/nonmembers, includes lunch and a full day of sessions. The registration fee also usually includes a light breakfast, lunch, and exhibits.

We also try to offer an optional Saturday Workshop for an additional cost. 1 PLU is available for those that attend both Friday and Saturday events. The workshop, Creating Wildlife Sanctuary Outdoor Learning Center, was taught by naturalist and environmental educator, Jerry Hightower.

Here are a few highlights from this year's event:

  • Get ticked off at the EEA store!  Visit our EEA Store to purchase fun, useful, and ecofriendly products--like nature t-shirts and bandanas, recycled jewelry, and tick-removal spoons. Proceeds go towards EEA scholarships for conference and symposia.
  • Learn about a bunch of cool outdoor-focused organizations by visiting our Exhibit Area.
  • Go for a boat ride on a beautiful tidal creek.
  • Talk to other teachers, administrators, and outdoor educators about how to make outdoor learning work for you.

We will also celebrate those outdoor learning victories!  Learn about the awards for Outstanding Outdoor Learning Educator or an Outstanding Learning Program.
