Each year, EEA's Council of Outdoor Learning (CoOL) sponsors the Outdoor Learning Symposium (OLS), an exciting professional learning event that proven models and innovative strategies for engaging children outdoors.

About the Symposium Host: Life University, Marietta GA
Life University is home to a diverse community of learners, teachers, hard workers, and innovators looking to make a positive difference in our communities, nation, and world. That’s why it's known as the not-so-little university that is changing the world. Life University believes that all people are interconnected and that we serve a community larger than ourselves. In fact, it’s the principle that the institution was founded upon, Lasting Purpose, that gives us this sense of responsibility and charges us To Give, To Do, To Love, To Serve – Out of a Sense of Abundance.
Life University has a forward-thinking approach to recycling. They encourage everyone to think about their purchasing habits with eco-friendliness in mind:
Collection receptacles are located in most campus common areas, dining facilities, and offices, making it convenient to deposit materials for recycling. Paper, aluminum, cardboard, and plastics are then retrieved by a collection service and sent for recycling. Ink and toner cartridges are also delivered to local collection centers. In 2011, Life University was recognized by Gov. Nathan Deal for taking action to improve the state’s air quality and reduce traffic congestion on the roads. As a partner in the Georgia Clean Air Campaign, the university's efforts helped reduce the vehicle miles spent on Georgia roads and kept 700 tons of carbon monoxide pollution out of our air.
The mission of Life University is to educate its students in a set of core life proficiencies, equipping them to become skilled professionals and preparing them for successful careers focused on serving the health needs of society. With this is in mind, one of the University’s priorities is to improve the health of the communities it serves. By becoming completely smoke free, they are furthering this mission, and in doing so are setting an example of wellness and prevention that is important to the health of the staff, students, and community.

- Refuse packaging that may be damaging to the environment.
- Reduce consumption of natural resources by reporting dripping faucets, turning off lights, and reducing use of paper towels.
- Make reusable items such as food containers, straws and water bottles part of your daily life. Keep reusable shopping bags in your car.
- Recycle whenever and wherever possible.

About the Council of Outdoor Learning
The Council of Outdoor Learning (CoOL) is an EEA initiative focusing on the design, development, use, and sustainability of outdoor learning environments on school campuses. CoOL provides resources for those who want to create outdoor classrooms or learning stations, hosts an annual symposium to share resources and strategies for teaching outdoors, and curates a collection of outdoor learning activities that are integrated with state standards.
