Two Calls to Action for Fall 2021

The Georgia Senate Study Committee on Outdoor Learning is conducting hearings and site visits this fall. The Committee is seeking insights and stories about the value of outdoor learning to your students. Let the Senators know what resources, support, professional learning, infrastructure, or funding would enable more children to have outdoor learning opportunities. Comments may be provided in September in any of the following ways:

• Virtually attend a GSTA meeting on September 14 at 5 p.m. and speak with Senator Rahman
• Share your perspective (and photos) to this Google file, in any format

The Georgia State Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan has been drafted. This document provides a five-year blueprint for state policies and funding, including spending priorities for Land and Water Conservation Fund. The draft Plan tells of survey respondents who want more "programming" at parks and nature areas and identifies outdoor education as one of the top reasons respondents visit parks, but does not prioritize outdoor learning and environmental education in the proposed goals and strategies.  Encourage the State to include environmental education and outdoor learning as essential components of outdoor recreation before adopting the Plan.

Comments may be provided at a hearing on September 13 at 6 p.m.
