EEA's Theory of Change: The power of environmental education

Do the children where you live have opportunities to explore and connect with nature? Do they have the knowledge and skills to understand local environmental problems and design solutions? Are they confident of their ability to make a difference in the world based on bite-sized successes conducting their own environmental projects?

This is what drives our work at the Environmental Education Alliance: a vision of children who grow up loving nature,
environmentally-savvy, thinking critically, making decisions to protect the planet and its inhabitants, and restoring the earth by creating a just and sustainable world for all.

How the EEA Board Envisions the Future
We are creating a new strategic plan for EEA and your ideas are valued. Since its founding in 1992, EEA's mission of promoting environmental education and stewardship has not wavered, but our priorities and approach have shifted with the times. For instance, we now have an executive director rather than being entirely volunteer-run.

EEA's Board of Directors is currently in the process of envisioning the future of the field of environmental education in light of trends and issues we face today, and re-imagining EEA's role. The process has included review and analysis of our current programs, committees, and operations; revisiting of our vision statement, mission, and strategic plan; and collaboration on a new vision for EEA.

Next, we will be identifying goals and objectives for the next several years and putting everything together in a Strategic Plan.

We are grateful to the Environmental Protection Agency and the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE), which provided an ee360 Grant to assist with Board development and strategic planning.

MISSION

EEA's mission is to help more people identify as environmental educators and to promote communication, enrichment, and professional development among people in the field of environmental education through interaction with other people and organizations to exchange information, develop contacts, pursue partnerships, advance initiatives, and share access to knowledge and experiences.

VISION

EEA supports environmental educators throughout Georgia to achieve our vision of a statewide culture of environmental literacy and stewardship.

STRATEGIC PLAN

  • Increase the capacity of EE providers through professional development and continuing education
  • Promote adoption of a Georgia environmental literacy plan
