MONARCHS ACROSS GEORGIA
Pollinator Habitat Certification

Pollinator Habitat Certification Program Benefits

There are many benefits for certifying your pollinator garden:
  • Gain a sense of satisfaction that you are helping the environment
  • Bring media attention and state recognition for your work to create pollinator habitat
  • Be eligible to order a Monarchs Across Georgia "Certified Pollinator Habitat” sign for your outdoor classroom, backyard or other habitat location
  • Certified Pollinator Habitats that have been maintained for a minimum of three years from their certification date are eligible to be nominated for our Pollinator Habitat Award.
Certified Pollinator Habitats

Certification Requirements

  • Two milkweed species (a minimum of two plants per species) for monarchs
  • Host plants for five additional butterfly species. Butterflies and Moths of North America is an excellent website for host plant information. Other resources are listed on our Pollinator Resources page.
  • Four nectar sources for butterflies and other pollinators in each of three seasons (spring, summer, and fall). Plants that bloom in more than one season can be counted in all seasons during which they provide nectar. Host plants may also be counted as nectar plants.
  • An appropriate water source for butterflies, a basking site, and shelter from weather, predators, and human activity
  • Spaces/ places for native bees to raise young
  • A minimum of nine conservation practices
  • If you represent a school or other educational facility, you must also describe how your project is incorporated into the curriculum

Certification Process

  1. Download this MS-Word template to complete your initial application offline.
  2. When you have completed the template offline, email it to phc@eealliance.org for approval. The Pollinator Habitat Certification chair will review the application and email you if any changes are needed before final approval.
  3. Once your template has been approved, use it to cut and paste the answers into the online form.
  4. After completing the online application, submit your payment and save this document as your record.
  5. Send photos of your garden or a garden design in a separate email to phc@eealliance.org. Applicants are responsible for obtaining a copyright release form from photographers, as well as a photo release form for anyone recognizable. Parents must sign a copy of a release form if children pictured are under 18 years of age. A confirmation of this action is included as part of the application.
  6. Once these steps are complete, your certificate and sign (if ordered) will be mailed to you.
