EEA ENDORSEMENT for EE Providers

How it works. Organizations or agencies that provide environmental education (EE) and outdoor learning may apply to participate in a year-long fellowship which concludes with a certificate of endorsement from EEA, indicating that the organization:
  • Adopts research-informed best practices in the field of environmental education
  • Curates or creates curriculum and instructional strategies consistent with the content and "three-dimensional science" methods of the Georgia Standards of Excellence in Science
  • Provides continuing professional development for its front-line staff
  • Demonstrates inclusivity and culturally-sustaining approaches to education and community engagement
  • Evaluates and continuously improves its public programs
  • Collaborates with the others in the field.

Who is eligible? Organizations that provide environmental education, environmental stewardship, nature experiences, or outdoor recreation in Georgia, as their sole purpose or incidental to their main mission, whether for-profit or non-profit ~ including nature centers, parks and recreation departments, water systems, camps, professional learning facilitators, eco-tour operators, outdoor recreation businesses, outfitters and retailers, conservation agencies, waste management departments, botanical gardens, zoos, aquaria, youth development organizations, and others that host, provide, or promote natural resource management, nature experiences, outdoor recreation, or environmental learning (indoor or outdoor) ~ are invited to participate.

What the yearlong organizational fellowship includes. EEA offers individually-tailored organizational fellowships comprising:
  • Self-assessment of the organization's knowledge and practices
  • Recognition of exemplary programs and community assets
  • Development of a work plan based on filling the organization's gaps and needs
  • Access to EEA workshops and online, self-paced courses for employees and volunteers
  • Opportunity for key employees to earn specialist certificates
  • Implementation charrettes and mentor feedback
  • Availability of letters of recommendation to funders (as well as possible partnerships)
  • Participation in a professional learning community including others in the annual cohort
  • Information about other opportunities to increase organizational capacity
  • Renewable certificate of endorsement from EEA

The purpose of the program. The EEA Endorsement was created to advance the field of environmental education, promote research-informed practices, translate research into implementation, ensure that Georgians have access to high-quality programs and facilities, recognize exemplary organizations, incentivize responsible approaches, and leverage stewardship and restoration of Georgia's extraordinary natural resources through professional development that leads to the award of a recognized and marketable credential.

CoOL Schoolyard Certification

What it is. EEA's Council of Outdoor Learning is launching a program to certify schoolyards that meet the criteria for best practices in:
  • Effective instructional methods for outdoor learning
  • Design, installation and sustainability of infrastructure and grounds
  • Responsiveness to educator needs, including professional development
  • Collaboration with the community and other stakeholders

How it works. Schools will register for the CoOL Schoolyard certification, attend an orientation, set annual goals for their outdoor learning program, upload metrics online to demonstrate progress toward those goals, and reflect best practices in use of school campuses for outdoor learning.  Schools are invited to apply at any point in their journey.

The purpose of the program. The CoOL Schoolyard Certification program was designed to share knowledge about sustainable and effective outdoor learning practices - including  infrastructure and instruction - based on years of experience that EEA's Council of Outdoor Learning (CoOL) has gained by providing technical assistance and professional learning, conducting research, and awarding grants for outdoor learning. The CoOL Schoolyard Certification promotes best practices and recognizes emerging to exemplary outdoor learning facilities and programs, at various levels.
