CoOL Outdoor Learning Symposium
Mark your calendar for November 2!EEA’s Council of Outdoor Learning (CoOL) will host the Outdoor Learning Symposium on Tuesday November 2. Hope you’ll join us!
There will be exciting sessions on how to create outdoor learning spaces, overcome obstacles to teaching outside, and engage students in culturally-relevant, real-world investigations.
  • Watch live-streamed tours of schoolyards and classes in action
  • Propose a showcase session to spotlight your own class or facility!
  • Learn about the latest research on outdoor learning outcomes

Do you take students outside to explore, observe natural phenomena, make models, or conduct real-world investigations? Does your schoolyard have a cool outdoor learning station such as a chicken coop, composter, root viewer, weather station, wildlife habitat or student work area? Let’s showcase it at OLS!

CALL TO ACTION #1:
Tell a GA Senate Study Committee how Outdoor Learning benefits your students

A bipartisan GA Senate Study Committee is conducting hearings and site visits to learn about outdoor learning. Your written testimony is needed to let the Senators know that outdoor learning is valuable to students and that support for professional learning, teaching resources and schoolyard improvements could enable ALL Georgia children to benefit.

There are 3 ways to provide input:
  • Join the Georgia Science Teachers Association virtual conversation with Sen. Rahman on Tuesday September 14 from 5:00 - 6:00.
  • Share your written comments (and pics!) to this Google folder and EEA will forward them to the Senate Study Committee
  • Email your comments to Senate Research staff member Keelin Cronin at keelin.cronin@senate.ga.gov
By December 1, the Senate Study Committee plans to publish their findings and possible policy or funding recommendations. We are grateful to Senator Sheikh Rahman, who is spearheading this initiative, as well as cmte. members Sen Sally Harrell, Sen Jen Jordan, Sen Ed Harbison, and Sen Burt Jones.

Happy 26th Birthday Symbolic Migration!Join us for the 26th annual "Symbolic Monarch Butterfly Migration" with youth from across the United States and Canada.  In the fall of 2020, five thousand youth created symbolic butterflies and sent them to Mexico for the winter. Students in schools near the Mexican monarch sanctuaries protected the butterflies and sent them north in the spring of 2021.
